Employment Termination

There can be many reasons why employment may terminate. The following are some of the most common reasons for termination of employment:

  • Resignation - voluntary employment termination initiated by an employee.
  • Discharge - involuntary employment termination initiated by the organization.
  • Layoff - involuntary employment termination initiated by the organization for nondisciplinary reasons.
  • Retirement - voluntary employment termination initiated by the employee meeting age, length of service, and any other criteria for retirement from the organization.
  • We will usually schedule an exit interview if you terminate. At the exit interview, we can go over such topics as your benefits, benefits conversion rights, repayment of any outstanding debt to MCC, or return of MCC-owned property. You may also make suggestions or complaints and ask questions at the exit interview.

Since your employment with MCC is voluntary and at will, you may terminate your employment at any time, with or without cause or advance notice. Likewise, MCC may terminate your employment at any time, with or without cause or advance notice.

When you terminate, you will receive your final pay in accordance with applicable state law.

Your benefits are affected by termination in several ways. All accrued, vested benefits that are due and payable at termination will be paid out. You may be allowed to continue some benefits by paying for them yourself. You will be notified in writing about which benefits you can continue and the limitations and details of how to continue them.
